We were all over Boston to begin the year when they upset Colorado. They go back on the road this week starting with a game against the struggling Oilers. Edmonton has lost their last three games, finding it difficult to score, by only scoring a total of three goals combined in those games. Boston found a much needed win their last out with a solid win over Atlanta. Boston has won the last six meetings between these two teams. Boston's record does not show how well they have actually played. They have lost 3 games in shootouts and only lost one game by more than one goal. You have just got to believe the longer this team plays together, specifically as the veterans help the young guys grow and mature, the better this team will be.
Bet Boston $100 to win $110.

Boston (???) @ Edmonton

Boston came through for us early this year winning our first bet of the year over Colorado. Boston goes back on the road starting Monday against Edmonton. The line has not come out yet, but I am sure they will be a small underdog. This is a close match-up between two pretty even statistical teams. The key for me comes down to the stats of Boston on the road, which are better than their average stats. They tend to play more focused defense on the road, which will be important against a struggling Edmonton team. Edmonton's goal scoring in the last game has been minimal at best. They return home to try and get back on track, but I like this Boston team and the more they play and gel together they better they will be.
Bet $100 on Boston to win (???), will update when line comes out.

Washington again disappoints. They score first, but yet can't hold for the win. What is the deal allowing consecutive goals within a few minutes in back-to-back games to cause both of their losses, just weird.
Record: 4-2
Profit $330

Wahsington suffered a tough loss on Monday as they failed to take advantage of several oppportunities. However, tonight should be a different story. Phoenix tends to come out flat as they average less than a goal in both of the first two periods while giving up over a goal in all periods. Washington tends to jump out on top as the are averaging at least one goal in every period. If Washington can take advantage of more of those opportunities they create throughout the game, then they should get back on track with a win. A critical aspect of the game will be if Washington can turn their poor powerplay effort so far around. Phoenix is tough on the powerplay, but I think Washington will be much more focused and play a better overall game.
Bet $230 to win $200
Other games;
1. Dallas (-120) at NY Islanders: Dallas 5 NY 3 win
2. Carolina at Pittsburgh: under 5.5 Pit. 4 Car. 1 win
3. Buffalo at Minnesota (-120) Buf 4 Min. 3 OT loss
4. Edmonton at Colorado over 5.5 Col. 4 Ed. 1 loss

We get back on track with a wild win in Philadelphia. Maybe the highest scoring game of the year. I couldn't believe it was 4-3 after one period. The Flyers scored in the last minute of the 3rd period to tie the game at 6 and force overtime. No one scored in the overtime, but San Jose won the shootout. Final: San Jose 7 Philadelphia 6.Record: 4-1Profit: $530

San Jose is playing great hockey on every level right now. They are scoring about 30% of the time during power play chances and then they turn around and play great defense when they are the man down only allowing goals 10% of the time. The Flyers have yet to win and it is difficult to believe this is where they will get their first win. They are giving up over 4 goals per and have played very poorly during power play situations.
Bet San Jose $-130 to win $100
Here are few other picks I like tonight, however the only game I am wagering on is the one above:
1. Florida at Ottawa -1 1/2 (+155)
2. Dallas at NJ (-130)
3. Detroit at St. Louis over 5.5 (-105)
4. Edmonton (+122) at Chicago

Last night was a tough loss as Washington played pretty well, except for about the span of four minutes to begin the 2nd period when they gave up two goals. Final score 2-1 Calgary.
Record 3-1
Profit: $430
Notes: If you didn't see the game last night this why Washington lost according to Jude Hall at vegasinsider.com:
"I don’t know how many of you saw the game between the Capitals and Flames at the Saddledome on Oct. 21, but you missed one of the best clean open ice hits I’ve seen in a while. Washington rearguard Tyler Sloan leveled the Flames’ Daymond Langkow with a clean body check about seven minutes into the game.
Calgary’s Rene Bourque came to the scene and promptly tried to knock the taste out of Sloan’s mouth. Not bad for Capitals farmhand playing just his third shift in the NHL. Bourque received nine minutes in the penalty box: five for fighting, two for unsportsmanlike conduct and another two minutes for instigating. Oh yeah, he received a game misconduct as well. Keep in mind that Washington held a 1-0 lead at the time.
So did the Caps come out of that major advantage with a goal? Hell no, Washington couldn’t get more than four average shots at goal during that stretch. The Capitals actually gave up a piece of that power play when Michael Nylander went down for a holding call for two minutes.
All of the momentum was there for Washington to set up a blowout. Yet the Capitals couldn’t take advantage of an early advantage and gave all the mojo to the Flames. Calgary knew what to do with that momentum as Jarome Iginla and Matthew Lombardi scored within the first three minutes of the second period. Hopefully the Caps can take this loss and learn a lot from it as the season wears on. "

Last night I should have went with my gut as Dallas came through with a nice road upset over the Rangers. However, no money bet is no money loss and we can look to continue our hot streak with another strong pick tonight. Washington lost their last game out in OT verse the Devils and now they travel west for three games. Washington's offense has looked strong scoring an average of 4 goals per game. Calgary's defense is giving up over 4 goals per game. If the Capitals can take advantage of poor defense play from the Flames then they should be able to score several goals. As is almost always the case, the underdog's defense will be critical to getting the win. Washington's defense has been just about average allowing 3 goals per game. Calagary's offense is averaging less than 3 goals per game. The Capitals have given up 3 goals in both their last two games. Look for the Capitals's D to play stronger tonight as I am sure the coaches emphasized playing better D in preparing for tonights game. Take Washington to win outright.
