No shying away from last nights disaster. Had the lead or was tied going into the 3 period in 3 of the 5 games and still couldn’t find a win. The season is still early and there is still a ton of money to be made over the course of the NHL season.

Good to be back posting on the THE ONETIMER. I have been posting picks on a couple other forums, but will post my plays daily here from now on. I am off to a decent start in hockey and look to continue rolling off a big win yesterday with Phoenix. I think today’s card lines up very nicely and should show a nice profit by days end. If you are not aware, all my picks are given in 1 or 2 units. I only play games I like, if I have questions about the game then I won’t be making a play on it. There will be very few 2 unit plays as they just don’t come along that often, maybe 1 to 2 a week.

Detroit -1 1/2 (+165) at Tampa Bay: Detroit is coming off a tough loss to PIttsburgh where they played really well, but seemed to let up down the stretch and Pitt stole the win. TB is coming off a terrible loss last night as they failed to score, losing 4-0. I really like Detroit in this spot. TB is playing worse at home than they are on the road scoring less than 2 goals per and allowing over 2 goals per. Detroit’s offense continues to produce over 3 goals a game. Detroit has dominated this series overall and should be hungry for a win off that loss. Look for Detroit to take advantage of a weak and tired TB team.

2. Toronto (+125) at Edmonton: I really like both of these teams and both are playing well above expectations so far this season. Edmonton continues to rely on their solid defense and finally get back home after a really long road trip. Toronto relies heavly on their offense as they have not been that strong defensively this year. They are young, but still play very good hockey. Their offense is averaging over 3 goals per, both at home and on the road. I think Edmonton might come out a little flat as they still may need sometime to recover from that road trip. Take Toronto to pull the small upset.

Tampa Bay (-105) at Florida

Even though TB’s record is not that impressive they have consistently played strong solid defensive hockey. They are on the final game of their road trip, but at least they are finally back in Florida. Florida is also coming off a long road trip where they played terrible losing 4 of 5. TB’s power play attack has been very strong and their defensive power-play unit has been strong as well. On the other hand, Florida has simply not got it together in the power play category scoring on less than 10% of the man advantage opportunities. Take TB.

Edmonton continues on their long road trip with a trip to NJ tonight. I like Edmonton in this spot for several reasons. They are coming a couple days rest, NJ played a tough game against Detroit last night and lost, and Edmonton is playing very solid hockey even though their record doesn’t really show it. NJ has not been the same without Brodeur as goals allowed since his loss is up. Edmonton can score as they have averaged over 3 goals per game in their last five. Edmontons powerplay teams, both offense and defense, are much better than NJ as well.

Ottawa (+110) at Carolina:

Ottawa has been playing very solid hockey winning their last two. They have played well on the road going 3-1. Ottawa is also benefiting from a healthy injury free line-up. On the other hand, Florida is already pretty banged up and has only played average hockey at home going 2-2. Ottawa’s defense is allowing less than two goals per on the road, while scoring almost 3. Take Ottawa here.

Dallas/Anaheim over 5.5 (Even)

Dallas is not living up to expectations so far this season, but they can still score goals averaging almost 3 a game, however slightly less on the road. I think tonight they pick-up their goals scoring on the road based on Anaheim’s defense giving up almost 3 per. Anaheim is averaging over 3 goals per game, while Dallas’s defense is giving up almost 4 goals. Look for this one to hit the over.
