Tonight’s Free NHL Picks (11/17/09)

Thanks to a big 2-unit Pittsburgh win, with all 3 plays considered, we netted a gain of 1.4 units. I was also glad to see a shootout finally go my way as the Blue Jackets topped the Oilers. We are back to our winning ways and looking into Tuesday’s card for some winners.
1.) OTTAWA -155 over Toronto — Just like Carolina, the Maple Leafs are another team I just cannot stop betting against. With a 3-10-4 record, how can you not like betting against the Leafs? Toronto gives up an average of 3.7 GPG and averages just 2.5 GPG. Ottawa is just 3-4-3 in their last 10, so my confidence in them is shaky, but 3 of those losses come from teams they the Senators should be losing to (PHI, NJ, NYR). With Ottawa 5-3-1 at home, I think its a good play against a poor Toronto team. (W)
2.) CALGARY -190 over Colorado — I’m loving Calgary right now and Colorado has just been terrible lately. Not only were they killed by the Oilers at home 5-3, but they lost to the Canucks at home by the score of 8-2. Calgary has won their last 5/6 and have allowed just 1 GPG in their last 5. The price is a bit high for a matchup that looks pretty even on paper when you look at the overall season averages, but Calgary has been the hot team and Colorado has been ice cold. (L)
3.) MONTREAL -155 over Carolina — Carolina is my favorite team to bet against. Enen though they snapped their 13-game losing streak against the Wild in a shootout, I’ll welcome all opportunities to bet against them for the remainder of time Staal and Ward are out for them. Other injuries for Carolina include Pitkanen and Yelle (both questionable). Carolina is winless on the road, so I like my chances with Montreal even if I’m taking a team that’s just 4-6 in their last 10. (W)
Opening Win/Loss: (2.2 units)
Closing Win/Loss: (2.1 units)
