Tuesday Night Hockey: Minnesota at Atlanta

Posted by in NHL Picks on October 17th, 2008 | Comment »
Minnesota started the season off on a good note, winning at home verse a very tough Boston Bruins team. Most analyst were unsure of what type of team the Wild would have after they failed to resign Brian Rolston, Pavol Demitra, and Mark Parrish. However, they came out sharp, especially on power-plays as they were 2 for 3 and kept the Bruins scoreless during their power-play chances. If their special teams continue to play solid, look for this team to be competitive throughout the year. The Atlanta Thrashers are 1-1 after dominating Washington in their opener and an overtime loss at Florida on Saturday. Atlanta’s power-play looked solid in the opener scoring on 3 of 9 opportunities, but failed to score on all 5 opportunities on Saturday. Most power rankings have Minnesota near the middle of the pack with strong emphasis on their solid defense. On the other hand, Atlanta is near the bottom with most analyst criticizing the direction of the franchise. Some say that Atlanta lost 60% of its season ticket holders. I will take Minnesota as a small favorite.

Play on Minnesota: $130 to win $100.

Results: The Wild looked strong again tonight. Their power-plays really put pressure on Atlanta and set the tempo for the 3rd period when things really opened up and the Wild took over. Atlanta simply allowed to many good chances on defense, without the excellent play of their goalie the score would not have been close. Minnesota 4 Atlanta 2

Season Total: 2-0

Profit: $340
